Year 2013 Tapani Jaakko Oskari HooliProgress Measurement of an Automation Design Project The aim of an automation design project is to produce a factory automation system, including procedures for use and maintenance. An automation design project is always unique as is its product, an automation system.
The purpose of this work is to study how to measure the progress of an automation design project. The thesis begins by describing a project in general, next an automation project and finally the project progress measurement methods.
To study an automation design project, the work breakdown structure (WBS) must be formed. The WBS is a tree like model and it divides a project into smaller parts called work packages (WP). Using the work packages the progress of the project can be followed. The work packages contain tasks and activities that result in deliverables such as documents and data. In this thesis, the indicators are selected for measuring the progress and finally guidelines are given how these indicators should be used to measure the progress of the automation design project.
